Young Designer of the Year.

October 28, 2014

Forestside's Young Designer of the Year is a programme created to showcase the fantastic science and technology skills of post primary students in our area. This year, four schools took part: Wellington College, Aquinas, Our Lady & St. Patrick's College and Friends School Lisburn. Six pupils from these four schools provided us with the best GCSE and 'A' Level project work to display on mall for a week.

At the end of the week the judges were talked through the projects by the students and a clear winner emerged. Centre Manager Lee commented 'We were highly impressed by the concepts presented, the technical skills demonstrated in construction and the methodology developed during the judging process.' He also revealed that the judging had been an extremely close call.

John Haslam, from Our Lady & St Patrick’s College, Knock won first prize of an iPad mini and the title of Forestside Young Designer of the Year, for his winning entry of an Interactive Tourism directional map. The cup for the winning school was presented to Angela Killen, Head of Technology and Design at Our Lady and St. Patrick's College. The five runners up all received Forestside gift cards to the value of £25 each.

Forestside Young designer of the Year is an annual competition and next year, we are looking forward to expanding the competition to include even more schools. If you would like your school to take part next year please email lee@forestside.co.uk or margaret@forestside.co.uk
