Gavin Ferris

Artist Bio

Undoubtedly one of Northern Ireland’s finest guitarists, Belfast based Gavin Ferris first burst on to the NI music scene in 2007 with his unique sound and striking presence. Captivating audiences with his percussive playing (inspired by guitarists such as Antoine Dufour, Tommy Emmanuel, Thomas Leeb and Andy McKee), Gavin’s music encompasses many styles, including Rock, Contempory, Flamenco, Jazz and Blues, while still holding on to his Irish traditional roots.

This unusual blend of musical influences culminates in a singular and compelling sound, typified by rhythmic grooves, deep, driving bass, intricate percussion and exquisite melodies.

So far in his career Gavin has performed in many prestigious music venues including the Ulster Hall, The Black Box, The Empire (Belfast), Queens Hall (Newtonards), Stramash and Electric Circus (Edinburgh), The Hanger (Dublin) and has had the honor of performing alongside guitar legends such as duo Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo, Preston Reed, Chris Woods Groove and Gary Lutton. To date Gavin holds the record for being the only person in the history of the Ards International Guitar Festival to be invited back 3 years in a row.

In 2013 Gavin was approached by Dr John Catherwood of Catherwood guitars, who offered to design and build him his own signature model. Working closely with the Catherwood team, they designed a totally unique instrument honed to Gavin's individual musical requirements. The new guitar premiered at the 2014 Ards International Guitar Festival and has been delighting audiences ever since.
